Kevin Kelly has a long article entitled "Scan This Book" in the forthcoming (Mother's Day) issue of the New York Times Magazine. It is online now for Times Select subscribers. The subject is the building of the universal, searchable digital library, a la Google and Brewster Kahle. Kelly was and is affiliated with Wired magazine, and it shows, but the article is entertainingly if not illuminatingly Big Picture. After reading this I was thinking of going out to have a T-shirt made for myself, with this tag: Mercedes' Want to Be Free!
