SSP June events: 1) Annual Conference and 2)*first* Pharma-Documentation Ring Corporate Library/Scholarly Publisher Forum 1) Librarian Rate for SSP Annual Meeting, June 7-9, 2006 Washington DC Librarians are invited to register for the SSP Annual Meeting for $300. (These rates will increase after May 10th.) SSP is the Society FOR Scholarly Publishing, not OF Scholarly Publishers, and librarian viewpoints and input are welcomed. Our conference theme this year 'Beyond Borders and Bindings' focuses on international and technological developments of formats old and new. Librarian and consultant Marshall Keyes delivers the keynote and many sessions of shared interest are offered, concluding with a Town Hall discussion 'The Impact of Search Technologies on Scholarly Publishing'. For an additional fee, five half-day seminars are available on June 7th, providing state of the art advice on access authorization, consortia sales, benchmarking and authoring tools. If you want to learn more about the business environment of publishers and are interested in influencing publishers' decisions as an informed customer, this meeting is a great opportunity to meet the publishers who want to meet you. If you are working in digital library initiatives, starting an open access journal, planning or managing institutional repositories, handling access and authorization, managing federated search engines, new content formats and more, you'll find many areas of practical advice. Please view our web site for a full description of the conference venue, programs, speakers and exhibits, and for registration information: https://www.sspnet.org Please note that hotel rooms must be reserved by May 9th for the conference rate. The venue is the spacious, newly renovated Marriott Crystal Gateway one Metro stop from Reagan National Airport in DC. 2) SSP/PDR Corporate Library/Scholarly Publisher Forum The FIRST Pharma-Documentation Ring Corporate Library/Scholarly Publisher Forum is coming up on June 15th in Baltimore immediately following the SLA Annual Meeting. Since many European and U.S. scientific, biomedical and technical librarians from corporate, pharmaceutical and academic sites will be in Baltimore, the Education Committee has assembled an expert group of librarians and publishers to discuss purchasing and licensing requirements, pricing models, rights and copyrights and new technology. Registration for this full-day event is limited to 50 attendees. Sign up now to insure your attendance.
