** Please excuse duplication** NISO Announces Fall Workshops, OpenURL and Metasearch: New Standards, Current Innovation, and Future Directions September 19-21, 2005, Washington DC (early bird rates close August 26th) Does your content play well with others? Are you taking advantage of opportunities to make your content more accessible, thereby protecting your subscription revenue? Expert speakers will tell you everything you need to know about the what/where/how & why of connecting your content through OpenURL Linking and through Metasearch -- an application that libraries are using to access your content along with a growing amount of content in electronic form from all other scholarly publishers. Don't be left out of the search results. OpenURL enables web users to access the particular version of licensed content libraries have paid for on their behalf, and/or select from a menu of additional linking services (for example, request a book on interlibrary loan). Metasearch software enables the simultaneous searching of multiple databases from one search box. This software typically includes the capability to de-dup, sort, and rank search results in a unified display. The training day is designed for technical staff from all types of content providers (publishers, vendors and librarians) to understand the basics of implementation, available tools, and requirements for standards conformance. You'll have a chance to learn from your colleagues and these expert speakers in question and answer periods and informal networking during breaks, meals, and during a workshop reception. Sponsoring vendors will highlight the features of their products in Vendor Showcases and in Exhibits. The venue is the spacious state-of-the-art conference facility at the AED headquarters near DuPont Circle in Washington, D.C. NISO workshops have been sell-outs so register now to take advantage of early-bird rates. Visit the NISO web site for information about the program and speakers, exhibitor and sponsorship opportunities, and to register. www.niso.org/news/events_workshops/OpenURL-05-wkshp.html (Ms.) October Ivins, MLS NISO Education Officer telephone 781-793-9283 (EST) oivins@niso.org or october.ivins@mindspring.com www.niso.org
