There is a fascinating discussion going on at Slashdot (slashdot.org) over the recent letter by Peter Givler of the AAUP in which he objects to Google's current scanning project. The page at Slashdot is here: http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/05/24/1721206&tid=217&tid=192&tid=155 The heading is "Publishers Protest Google Library Project." The initial post was by (username) Zonk. Especially interesting is the commentary that is welling up about the post. It's filled with insightful remarks, cliches, ideological outbursts, and grotesque errors of fact. Peer review, anybody? Note also that the many references to Open Access span all media types and not just research literature. -- Joe Esposito
