UCP Director announces appointment of Library Relations Manager

Chicago,IL, March 18, 2005 Paula Duffy, Director of The University of
Chicago Press, is pleased to announce the appointment of Anna Allegra
Fleming to the newly created position of Library Relations Manager. This
position will ensure that the Press's crucial library constituency has an
active voice in the decisions that confront the Press as one of America's
foremost publishers of scholarly journals and books. Fleming's mission is
to survey the needs of librarians, understand their views on electronic
and other strategic acquisitions and licensing issues, and keep abreast of
the ever-evolving relationship among universities, libraries, and
publishers. She will represent the views of librarians within the Press.

"Anna has developed relationships with scholars, vendors, and librarians
at many different institutions. She also has a proven track record of
collaborative leadership, flexibility, and experience in developing and
marketing library services to academic communities. Her background
includes acquisitions, vendor relationships, focus groups, and product
research and training," said Duffy. Fleming's education includes master's
degrees in Library Science and English from the University of Washington
and a bachelor's degree in English and American Literature from the
University of California, San Diego.

Duffy commented, "Long-term solutions to the serials crisis and to
concerns about the future of monograph publishing will require direct
communication and strong relationships among scholarly publishers,
researchers, and librarians. The Press and librarians share challenges and
values; both are working to provide the best possible service and
world-class content in difficult economic times. We look forward to
collaborating with librarians to develop products and pricing that
contribute to the ease with which scholars can access and recommend our
content."
