Project MUSE Job Announcement: Usability and Outreach Librarian

TITLE: Usability and Outreach Librarian, Project MUSE®
LOCATION: Johns Hopkins University Press, Baltimore, MD

Project MUSE is recruiting candidates with excellent academic library
skills to work in a non-traditional environment serving a broad and
diverse user base. This librarian will be responsible for leading efforts
to increase usage of the Project MUSE electronic journals collection,
develop usability testing, outreach services, and user education programs,
assist in efforts to improve the interface and functionality of Project
MUSE, and analyze usage and user trends to support planning and
development.

Duties include but are not limited to: Develop and coordinate outreach
services and user education programs for librarians and end users; conduct surveys and focus groups to determine user needs; field questions
and correspond with users; assist with related marketing activities,
including traveling to conferences and vendor fairs; develop and
coordinate testing program to support Project MUSE usability goals and
quality standards; coordinate testing and develop policies and procedures;
design and conduct usability tests, analyze and interpret results, and
make recommendations; serve as a resource for Project MUSE Team;
participate in ongoing development of interfaces and functionality for
Project MUSE; Coordinate Project MUSE's informational web pages; develop
and maintain accurate online and print informational materials, including
tools and resources for librarians and end users, training materials to
support outreach services, and "help" modules; work collaboratively with
members of the Project MUSE team, especially the MUSE User Services
Manager and Staff and MUSE Marketing Services on outreach activities; as
part of outreach duties, will work extensively with librarians, faculty,
researchers, and students at many different institutions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

ALA-Accredited MLS Degree with two years experience working with users and
electronic resources in library and information service environment,
including reference, instruction and user outreach activities and
preparing written and online guides and training materials; advanced
computer skills; ability to work with wide range of programs and
platforms; knowledge of web page design, usability principles, research
methodologies, information architecture, and HTML; excellent oral and
written communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills; excellent
analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills; comprehensive
knowledge of information literacy, general academic library and electronic
publishing trends; demonstrated ability to work both independently and
collaboratively as part of a team.

Preferred:

Experience conducting usability testing, moderating focus groups and
interviews, and working in a UNIX environment.
