AnthroSource (sm) - the premier online resource for anthropology - now available to libraries, AAA members, and the public American Anthropological Association (AAA), the world's largest organization of anthropologists, and the University of California Press, its publishing partner, today announced the release of AnthroSource (sm), the premier online resource for anthropology now available at http://www.anthrosource.net. This pioneering electronic scholarly resource provides access to the complete full-text archive of all peer-reviewed journals, newsletters, and bulletins published by the AAA - over 100 years of published scholarly research across 31 publications - and access to current issues of 11 AAA journals. Available to libraries at a low subscription price and to AAA members as a benefit of AAA membership, AnthroSource serves the research, teaching, and professional needs of anthropologists by providing users with a centralized electronic access point to the core scholarship in the field. "AnthroSource is a long overdue addition to the suite of electronic resources available to anthropologists," said Bill Davis, Executive Director of the AAA. "We envision AnthroSource as the nexus for anthropological scholarship - a resource that will revolutionize the way that anthropologists, researchers, and students work." In its first release AnthroSource is a dynamic content resource. Powered by Atypon Systems, the technology provider behind Blackwell Synergy and CrossRef, AnthroSource combines core AAA journal content with a powerful search engine and a robust delivery platform that allows users to personalize their research experience with options such as saved searches and email alerts. The AAA plans to greatly expand the content available in subsequent releases of the product. AnthroSource will eventually provide scholars with a venue to access and exchange information such as bibliographic data, reference materials, conference proceedings, dissertations, multimedia objects, audio, and video. AnthroSource will also include articles from journals published by other organizations and provide access to unpublished gray literature with relevance to anthropological research. "AnthroSource is much more than a content collection," said Rebecca Simon, Assistant Director for Journals Publishing at the University of California Press. "It is an evolving, interactive repository of research and communications tools designed to unite anthropological scholarship in one place and support a strong community of scholars, teachers and students in the field." Individual scholars are invited to join the AAA to receive AnthroSource as one of its many membership benefits.
