David Goodman noted that he wasn't aware that any of the Google/library projects would be scanning books still under copyright. According to an article in the Detroit Free Press, Google will be scanning everything in the University of Michigan library (which it apparently will not do with many of the other libraries in the project). If a book is in the public domain, the user will be able to look at the entire text of the book. If a book is still under copyright, the full text will be searchable, but "the university will put a short synopsis of the material online, with information that links to the publisher or libraries where the work can be obtained."
