Date: Fri, 2 Jul 2004 17:25:39 +0100 From: "Debbie Stoddart (ALPSP)" <marketing@alpsp.org> Effective Customer Authentication 15 July 2004, BSG House, 226-236 City Road, London, EC1V 2TT Chair: Jill Cousins, Web Publishing Consultant Delivery of valuable material over the web necessitates its protection both from an IP standpoint and to prevent corruption or damage. Online products and services need to authenticate users to exclude unauthorised access and record useful data about customers. Whether within a company, university or other institutional environment this can involve practical complexities that impact upon how flexibly publishers can manage customers' access rights, and it is becoming increasingly important that authentication methods do not inhibit publishers' abilities to develop new business models. This briefing will review the standard authentication techniques in widespread use, and examine a number of emerging authentication services, with special regard to 'single sign-on' - services offering users the benefit of only having to remember one set of account details for accessing multiple online products and services. Who should attend The updates are designed for middle and senior management whose primary focus may not be in technical areas but who need to make decisions regarding the implementation of technology.
