Subject: JSTOR Distributes ARTstor Digital Library

Dear Colleagues -

At the JSTOR Participants Meeting during the ALA Midwinter Conference in
San Diego this past January, James Shulman, Executive Director at ARTstor,
provided the attendees with an overview of ARTstor - its origns, mission,
and community goals - and demonstrated the robust set of tools that have
been developed to view and manage the over 300,000 images in the ARTstor
Digital Library.

Since that meeting, many of you have requested that we keep you apprised
as ARTstor prepares for its public launch later this summer.

Today, I am pleased to inform you that ARTstor has announced its
participation fees for the U.S. higher education and museum communities.
The press release can be viewed on the ARTstor website at
http://www.artstor.org/news/announce_availability.jsp.

Because of the close relationship between JSTOR and ARTstor - both started
as projects at the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, both are independent
non-profit organizations established to serve the research needs of the
scholarly and cultural communities, and both work hard to balance the
needs of content owners, libraries, and scholars - ARTstor participation
will be managed by JSTOR's Library Relations unit.

So, if you have questions about what is in ARTstor, or would like further
information about how to participate in ARTstor, please feel free to call
your usual contact in Library Relations (212-358-6400) or email us at:
participation@artstor.org

Best regards,

Bruce Heterick
Director for Library Relations
