Although not strictly about licensing, this forum relates to database use and may be of interest to liblicense-l participants: ALA Midwinter 2003 Discussion Forum: One Stop Searching: Effects on Information Literacy, Research, and the Learning Process Date: Sunday, January 26: 9:30 a.m. -11:00 a.m. Location: Philadelphia Convention Center, Room 103C The Products and Services Committee of ALA's Reference User Services Association (RUSA) Machine Assisted Reference Section (MARS) will be presenting a discussion Forum at ALA's Midwinter 2003 Conference on the topic of portals and their impact on information literacy. Representatives from Fretwell-Downing, ExLibris, and Endeavor, and a representative from the ARL Scholars Portal Project will discuss issues such as: 1. In the development of your portal product, was enhancement of information literacy skills a factor in the design? 2. How did you collect data and feedback for this aspect of the design? (focus groups of students, librarians, surveys, watching students search, etc.) 3. What aspects of your portal do you feel specifically enhance information literacy skills? Following brief presentations by each of the speakers, the floor will be open for discussion. For those interested in joining the Products & Services Committee, a business meeting of the committee will follow the discussion forum.
