Please make plans to attend the following at ALA Midwinter: What: ALCTS SS Journal Costs in Libraries Discussion Group When: Saturday, January 25, 2003 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Where: Marriott Hotel Salon B Topic: Bulk purchasing and the effects on libraries and publishers The charge of this discussion group is to keep the issue of escalating journal costs in the forefront of discussion; to encourage collaborative partnerships between librarians, publishers, and subscription agents that will foster the evolution of journal publications; and to ensure open forums that will provide productive avenues of communication and education within the diverse serials community to ensure equitable access to journals. For this session, we're focusing on the effects of bulk purchasing on libraries and publishers. Our panel of experts include: - Ivy Anderson, Harvard University Library Digital Acquisitions Program Librarian - John Cox, John Cox Associates, consultant who specializes in scholarly and research publishing - Sandra Gurshman, Marcel Dekker, Inc., Sales Director - Christine Stamison, Swets Blackwell US, Academic Sales Manager The panelists will also be asked to represent their group (publisher, subscription agent, librarian) in answering questions from the attendees.
