Probably old news, but see Publishers Weekly of June 24th, p. 12. A boxed news item notes that Bertelsmann is looking to divest itself of Springer, in order to focus on more consumer-oriented businesses. Apparently Bertelsmann has decided not to go ahead with its earlier plans to become a major player in the STM market. "An investment banker noted that Springer is large enough to attract a company looking to break into the professional and/or American publishing market. The US represents about 18% of Springer's total sales."
