Forwarded by the NASIG executive to readers of liblicense-l. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- May 17, 2001 Unfortunately several of you have just received notice of a focus group which Bell & Howell intends to sponsor next Thursday at a hotel during NASIG conference time. This is not in any way connected with or supported by NASIG. We apologize for this direct violation of our non-commercial policy and for the direct conflict of scheduling with our programming time. We have been in contact with Bell & Howell for a month or so regarding their request and had told them that they could use the user meeting time after the conference for a group meeting if they so chose. They were told that they could not have a meeting during the networking node period for product-oriented purposes. We also explained the informal networking benefits of NASIG and encouraged them to pursue that avenue by simply enjoying the NASIG experience first to discover what the conference is all about and have a better understanding of our purposes. NASIG'S non-commercial level playing field policy was clearly explained several times. We do not know how they got individual names of NASIG members or to whom the message was sent, but we will try to post a disclaimer on any other lists we find. If you see this announcement on any other lists (other than liblicense-l), please contact me. I have contacted B&H but at this time have no other information from them regarding our extreme surprise and request for them to amend their plans. We did want the membership to know immediately of this distressing situation and that we are trying to resolve it in an agreeable manner. I hope that you understand our concern and will be patient as we work through this.
