Note interest in Reed Elsevier/Academic STM titles. _____ http://www.siliconinvestor.com/research/story.gsp?id=1390143&s=H LONDON, March 22 (Reuters) - British academic and scientific publisher Taylor & Francis Group Plc (TFG) delivered a 30 percent surge in 2000 pre-tax profits on Thursday and reported an encouraging start to the current year. The company's geographical spread and lack of exposure to falling advertising revenues have shielded it from the worst of the troubles which have hit UK media stocks. Taylor & Francis has bought eight companies in the last five years, and Selvey said it could raise around 55 million pounds to fund further buys. He would also be keen to buy any scientific or technical titles sold off by Reed Elsevier (REED) and Harcourt General (NYSE:H) to satisfy competition authorities after their merger. "We'd be ready there to mop them up if they give us potential," he said. (additional reporting by Mike Elliott) --end of extract--
