I know that this list is read by a lot of European librarians, publishers and other intermediaries. It has over the years created understanding over a variety of issues among the various participants in the information chain. With that in mind I want to draw attention to members of the list to the upcoming STM conference in Amsterdam (26/27 April). A number of the sessions are of interest to others than STM publishers. They include 5 speakers on users statistics including Judy Luther; Cliff Lynch on publishing in science, the definition of a publication and the issue of authenticity; an update on the publisher/library debate on document delivery practices; and What else can CrossRef Do by Marc Brodsky of AIP. The dinner speaker is Richard Smith of the British Medical Journal on the (free) flow of medical research information. There is also (as always) a lot on Copyright. Further information and registration forms can be found on www.stm-assoc.org/news/2001-1/prog.html Anthony Watkinson
