Please excuse duplicate postings. ********************************************* WASHINGTON STATE LIBRARY PRE-RECRUITMENT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR **PRINCIPAL LIBRARY INFORMATION SPECIALIST** The Washington State Library is currently recruiting to fill a project Principal Library Information Specialist position. This position is assigned to the Consultants Team, based in Olympia, Washington, and is responsible for coordinating the Statewide Database Licensing (SDL) Project. Desirable skills include project management skills, publicity and marketing skills, public speaking skills, expertise with MS Office products including FrontPage, and knowledge of current practices and issues in the area of cooperative database licensing. The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of multi-type library cooperative practices, and will ideally have a proven track record of bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to achieve a significant goal. The successful candidate will be comfortable making presentations to constituents and policy-making groups both within and outside of the library world. The successful candidate will also have a proven history of listening to the needs and issues of different types of libraries and finding common ground so the library community can move forward together in service to customers. The successful candidate must be an excellent communicator (print, web, and email), and a self-starter who can work independently as well as in a team environment. Some travel will be required. Funding for this position is ensured through September 30, 2002. The future of the position will depend on the outcome of the search for an ongoing source of funds to subsidize or pay for database content and/or to pay for administrative overhead of running a statewide program. A bill in support of state funding for databases has been introduced in the Washington State Legislature and status may be monitored through the web pages of the Washington Library Association at http://www.wla.org/libleg/libleg.html QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: A Master's degree in library science from an American Library Association accredited program and certification by the Washington State Library Commission; or certification by the Washington State Library Commission by examination ---AND--- Five years' of experience as a professional librarian. COMPENSATION / BENEFITS: Salary: $3,594 - 4,601 / month, depending on qualifications and agency approval.
