This topic comes up from time to time. It is obviously important. Visitors to this site may be interested in a study available on the Book Industry Communications site in the UK [www.bic.org.uk/rights.html for the page listing other relevant documents and www.bic.org.uk/digpres.doc to go directly]. It is specifically relevant to the UK situation but as it aims "to provide a useful starting point for those readers who are looking for a way into the extensive literature on this topic" it may be useful to a much wider audience. The title is Digital Preservation by Bide, Potter and Watkinson so I am of course biassed as to its usefulness. Anthony Watkinson
