Library Link discussion

"Electronic archiving will not happen"

"If a publisher is not prepared to allow for archival copying of electronic
journals ... avoid dealing with that publisher"

Dear List Member,

These comments have been taken from the current Library Link discussion
entitled 'Challenges in the 21st Century: Partnerships in the Electronic
Age'. It has been set up as a precursor to the MCB / Library Link workshop
to will be held at the ALA Midwinter conference in Philadelphia. Other
topics, which have prompted similar debates, are:

- Distributed publishing: is linking the answer?
- Access v. Ownership: are you entitled to what you've bought?
- Subject gateways: creating a shop window to the hybrid library?
- Archiving: who should do it and how?
- Resourcing the role of the new librarian

If you have an opinion on any of the topics listed, or in fact anything to
do with librarianship or information management, why not tap into the
thoughts and views of hundreds of link-minded individuals.
