Remote alumni access to electronic resources

Has anyone addressed the issue of remote alumni access to electronic
resources provided by the library? The first hurdle of course is alumni
access to the campus net, which in itself is no small issue; but even
after getting past this, some info provider contracts expressly exlcude
alumni. So far I've not encountered much interest on the part of the
providers for flexibility or negotiation in this area. (And I thought
*everything* was for sale these days!) As you might expect, and perhaps
as some of you have experienced, many alumni (and on-campus advocates for
alumni) are expressing strong interest in access to these resources.
Before pursuing this more aggressively with the providers, though, I'm
wondering if others have had experiences along these lines and from whose
experience I can benefit.
