Job Opportunity at Concordia University Libraries, Montreal



Concordia University Libraries is looking for an energetic and 
innovative leader to direct their operations in acquiring, 
licensing, organizing, and making available all collections and 
research resources for both of Concordia University's campuses.

Concordia University is one of Canada's most dynamic universities

international) and nearly 1,900 full-time and part-time

The collections are housed in the Georges P. Vanier Library on 
the Loyola Campus and the R. Howard Webster Library on the 
downtown Sir George Williams Campus.  The Collection Services 
division currently comprises 6 librarians and 30 support staff 
members in the areas of Bibliographic Access, Electronic 
Resources & Serials and Special Collections, spanning the 
functions of ordering, cataloguing and preservation of all 
materials for the collection (print, electronic, other media), as 
well as management of Millennium modules and SPECTRUM 
(Concordia's research repository), and provision of access to a 
multitude of electronic resources.

The position of ASSOCIATE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN, COLLECTION 
SERVICES, reporting to the University Librarian, has primary 
responsibility for the leadership, evaluation, development and 
administration of Collection Services.  The incumbent is 
responsible for the Libraries' acquisitions budget.  Together 
with members of the Library Administration Team, the incumbent 
also plans and coordinates policies and projects for the 
Libraries within a network supported by the Canadian Association 
of Research Libraries, the Canadian Research Knowledge Network, 
and the Conference des recteurs et principaux des universites du 
Quebec.

This is a renewable contract appointment and includes generous 
provision for administrative leave. Qualified candidates must 
have a Master's degree from an ALA accredited library school or 
an equivalent acceptable for membership in the Corporation of 
Professional Librarians of Quebec, and at least seven years of 
experience with career development leading towards increased 
managerial responsibility. Candidates will demonstrate the 
ability to lead staff in a unionized environment, to work with 
faculty, and to promote the Libraries' mission in the 
transforming landscape of scholarly communications. Excellent 
communication in English is essential; French language skills are 
a distinct advantage.
