ASM Journals Price Announcement: 2009 Subscription Year

The American Society for Microbiology is pleased to inform the
library community that 2009 prices for ASM's 11 journals --
including the All-11, Basic, and Clinical online packages--are
now posted at
http://journals.asm.org/subscriptions/instcost.shtml.  The base
price increase for the 2009 subscription year is a modest 5%.

ASM journals continue to represent authoritative sources of
published research in basic and clinical microbiology, virology,
and immunology, as evidenced by these updated statistics:

* The 2007 Journal Citation Reports credits ASM journals with
nearly 43% of all citations in the field of Microbiology;

* The 2007 JCR ranked 6 ASM journals in the top 20 in
Microbiology by Impact Factor, including Clinical Microbiology
Reviews (#1) and Microbiology and Molecular Biology Reviews (#3);

* The 2007 JCR also showed an overall increase of 6.4% in the
number of ASM journal articles cited in 2007;

* ASM's online journals had over 9 million unique online visitors
in 2007, who downloaded more than 17 million article PDFs;

* Beginning January 1, 2009, the electronic versions of ASM
journals will be designated the publications of record.
However, ASM will continue to offer print versions to meet the
needs of all our customers.

To provide the quality of customer service that reflects the
quality of ASM's journals, ASM has made several changes to our
subscription policies and procedures. One significant change for
2009 concerns ASM's previous policy of returning incomplete or
inaccurate orders. Beginning with 2009 subscriptions, ASM will
grace incomplete and inaccurate orders for 45 days. Our
fulfillment offices will work directly with subscription agents
and customers to obtain the required information and correct
payment to prevent a lapse in access. In addition, customers
will no longer be charged a fee to switch from print to online
journals or upgrade to one of the online packages.

ASM also has amended its claims policy to allow for additional
flexibility concerning missed issues. Missed issues will now be
replaced free of charge one time only, with a maximum claim of 3
issues per subscriber per year for direct ship-to's. A
shipping/handling fee of $35.00 will be charged for each approved
claimed issue over and above this limit.

If your institution did not subscribe to any online ASM journals
in 2008, you may wish to take advantage of a newly available free
3-month trial subscription to the All 11 ASM Journal Package. To
activate your free trial subscription, which must conclude by
November 30, 2008, simply download the application form
(http://journals.asm.org/subscriptions/ASMFreeTrial1108.pdf) and
email or fax the completed form to ASM at asmusa@pcgplus.com or
1-617-354-6875, respectively.

ASM values the business you have entrusted to us, and we are
committed to providing the high quality research publications
that your scientists expect and the improved customer service
that you deserve.

Sincerely,
