Electronic Resources Acquisitions Librarian Position at UW-Madison

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* MLS from an ALA-accredited program.

* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current standards and practices in acquiring, licensing, and managing access to electronic resources. Working knowledge in at least some of the following areas is required: placing orders for new electronic resources; review of initial and renewal licenses; familiarity with trends in serials management and electronic resources publishing; archiving and preservation of electronic resources; troubleshooting access problems; and collection development issues related to electronic resources.

* Familiarity with technical and legal issues in the delivery of digital information, vendor relations, and trends in scholarly publishing.

* Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

* Ability to work independently and effectively across organization lines and in collaboration with a variety of individuals and groups.

* Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic, team-based, academic and technological environment.

* Aptitude for detail oriented work, including strong analytic and problem solving skills.

* Demonstrated ability to exercise individual initiative.

* Demonstrated commitment to providing quality customer service.

* Proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing programs such as MS Word and Excel; familiarity with relational database programs such as Access.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Experience acquiring and managing electronic resources in a large academic library.

* Familiarity with initiatives to enhance access to electronic resources including knowledge of or experience with current library technologies such as link resolving software.

* Experience with acquisitions operations in an integrated library system.

* Experience working with vendors and publishers of electronic resources.

* Familiarity with the language and methods used in the negotiation of licenses and contracts for electronic resources.

Principal Duties: This position will work closely with Licensed Resources staff on activities associated with the acquisition of electronic resources for the General Library System. Primary responsibilities include assisting with the acquisition, licensing, and access to electronic resources; acquisition, processing, payment, renewal and cancellation processes for electronic resources using an integrated library system (Ex Libris Voyager) and a link resolver (Ex Libris SFX); activation and troubleshooting of electronic resources; assisting with the evaluation, review, and negotiations for licensed resources; and maintenance of a central repository of information on electronic resources.

Additional Information: This position is one of four staff positions that make up the Licensed Resources Unit. The Licensed Resources Unit is one of five units within the Acquisitions Department of the Central Technical Services Division, which serves 16 libraries comprising the General Library System.

A period of evaluation will be required.
