New Perpetual Access Offering Adds Significant Value to Libraries Worldwide

HERSHEY, PA - March 28, 2008 - In response to increasing interest among libraries in permanent access rights to journal content subscribed to in electronic formats, IGI Global, the leading publisher of peer-reviewed research in computer science and information technology management, has revised the licensing terms for the InfoSci-Journals database of 60+ journals to allow perpetual access to content added to the collection during each year that an active, paid, site license is maintained.

This 'years paid' perpetual access model will be added to the licensing terms for current and new InfoSci-Journals license sites, at no additional charge over the currently published annual license fee. For example, if a library were to license InfoSci-Journals in 2008, 2009, and 2010 and then choose not to renew in 2011, it would retain perpetual access rights to content added during 2008, 2009, and 2010.

The InfoSci-Journals backfile, which begins at the year 2000, will continue to be accessible to all active, paid license sites at no additional charge. Purchase of perpetual access to the backfile is also available, for a separate one-time fee.

"The scientific/technical/medical publishing industry is seeing a strong overall trend toward perpetual access models for journal databases, and the 'years paid' scenario allowing permanent access rights to content added while a license is active fits the ownership expectation of the traditional print subscription," said William C. Hayward, IGI Global's Director of Sales and Marketing.

"If an institution subscribes to a print journal for five years, they retain five years of printed issues on the shelf. And if they want to own back issues from before their subscription began, they can purchase them separately. It's a simple analogy with print delivery, and applying it to electronic content makes sense for the publisher while adding value to the library's electronic collection."

IGI Global also announced plans recently to increase even further the value of InfoSci-Journals to the scholarly and library communities by doubling its content to 60 specialized, peer-reviewed titles by the end of 2008. The new titles are the result of an active journal acquisition and development program IGI Global launched last year to meet the need of researchers in a variety of disciplines to keep pace with the rapid advance of technological innovations and findings. InfoSci-Journals will expand even further to 100 titles during 2009.
