Product Manager, CrossRef

Position:         Product Manager, New Services
Reports to:     Director of Business and Product Development
Benefits:         Health, dental, 401k

CrossRef, a membership association and technical platform for 
scholarly publishing, seeks a detail-oriented Product Manager to 
handle product planning, management, and marketing for a select 
portfolio of new services. This includes co-managing 
products/services throughout their life-cycle, carrying out 
market and system analysis to prioritize product and user 
requirements, promoting product adoption by members, and working 
closely with technical and business staff to ensure that 
initiatives support the organization's overall mission.  This 
position requires knowledge of the academic publishing arena with 
a minimum of five years of full-time relevant work experience in 
a technology or publishing setting. The qualified individual will 
be a good listener, have strong communication and team skills, 
and be comfortable interacting with both business and technical 
staff.  The ideal applicant will also have experience working 
with project management software. CrossRef has a small staff and 
the ability to work independently, be flexible, and perform a 
wide variety of duties is essential.

Key Tasks

- work with CrossRef directors to help define product strategy 
and roadmap

- develop and implement plans to ensure targeted growth of new 
services

- maintain detailed spreadsheets and reports to manage all 
contacts, processes, schedules, and opportunities

- actively promote services to membership through meetings and 
speaking engagements

- encourage and coordinate user feedback processes

- work with marketing staff to develop messaging, sales tools, 
and collateral

- market research, and expertise with respect to competitive 
field

- perform product/service demos as needed

Qualifications/requirements:

- Minimum five years relevant work experience, as a product 
manager or product marketing manager

- Excellent organizational and communication skills

- Bachelor's degree; graduate degree preferred

- Electronic publishing production or technical product 
management experience

- Formal Project management experience a plus

- Public speaking experience a plus

- Excellent computer skills with advanced knowledge of Microsoft 
Word, Excel, Access, Outlook

- Demonstrated success defining and launching successful products

- Strong teamwork skills

- Must be able to travel up to 30% of the time
