Be..."Inspired: Lessons from a Wider World"...

Time and space are running out to register for the Society for Scholarly Publishing's upcoming Top Management Roundtable (September 5-7, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, Four Seasons Hotel), and there is no on-site registration. Visit www.sspnet.org for complete registration and program details.

Come hear Chris Meyer, CEO of Monitor Networks, give a ground-breaking keynote on the very nature of open source:

What is open source and what is it telling us? Conflicts over rights management--the length of copyright, the terms for downloading music, fair use of video, etc.--reflect a shift, not just in technology, but in the nature of property in an information-intensive economy. The conventions and contracts governing the creation, dissemination, and use of information were developed to meet the needs of an industrial economy; as that context shifts, so will the governance of intellectual property. In this session, Chris Meyer will offer a framework for thinking about innovations like open source, the "wisdom of crowds," and "the gift economy;" followed by a discussion with Chris and Geoffrey Bilder regarding the implications for scholarly publishing.

An amazing roster of speakers, interviewers and moderators this year also includes:

With so many meetings in the scholarly communications space, join us in daring to be different. This unusual program will provide a unique opportunity to hear about, and be inspired by, experiences with new models of information delivery and access in other sectors of media and publishing. The program includes thought leaders from the news, television, music, museum, and investment and consulting worlds, as well as online trade, education, and reference publishing. Several sessions are set up as talk-show style discussions with interviewers from within scholarly publishing probing guest speakers for relevant lessons. There will also be lots of opportunity for audience questions, as well as time for networking during receptions and meals.

We have room or only 100 people at TMR and it is filling up fast, so if you're interested please take a look at the detailed program and sign up at the SSP website now. http://www.sspnet.org
