Job Announcement - Archivist

Abilene Library Consortium in Abilene, TX seeks an Archivist to 
oversee the creation of a digital repository from the archives of 
five member institutions in a three-year project funded by a $2.2 
million grant. The Archivist will administer the Digital Archives 
Project making decisions about technology, staffing, training, 
publicity, and work flow, and consulting with participating 
institutions in the Consortium: Abilene Christian University, 
Abilene Public Library, Howard Payne University, Hardin-Simmons 
University, and McMurry University.  The archivist will report to 
the Executive Director of the Consortium with advice from the 
Chair of the Administrative Committee.

Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS or an international or 
work-related equivalent with appropriate coursework and/or 
certification in archives management.  Requirements include: 
strong computer skills for the organization, storage, and 
retrieval of archival documents and digitized collections; three 
to five years archival management experience in an institutional 
setting; proven leadership skills and knowledge of management 
techniques; and knowledge of digital libraries including best 
practices and standards for digitization and preservation of 
historically significant collections.  Successful applicant must 
demonstrate ability to work with colleagues in collaborative and 
team environment as well as independently; evidence of 
problem-solving skills; excellent oral and written communications 
skills.

Abilene is located in the heart of West Texas with a population 
of 116,000.  Covering 110 square miles, Abilene is a city that

Excellence for Engineering in Abilene.

An excellent relationship exists between the City and Dyess Air 
Force Base, home to the Air Combat Command B-1 Lancer and the Air 
Mobility Command C-130 Hercules.

Salary Range:  $40,000 to $80,000 depending on experience and 
qualifications.
