SAGE Appoints Tessa Picknett As New STM Publisher

Thousand Oaks, California, London, United Kingdom, and New Delhi,=20
India (April 13, 2006) - In order to provide direction for the=20
globally expanding science, technology, and medicine (STM)=20
journals program, SAGE Publications has recently appointed Tessa=20
Picknett as STM Publisher. This is a newly-created position based=20
in SAGE's London office.

Picknett has a PhD in the Life Sciences and comes to SAGE from=20
Academic Press and Elsevier where she garnered over 15 years of=20
experience in book and journal publishing. She has also helped=20
negotiate key partnerships with societies for both books and=20
journals.

At SAGE, she will be instrumental in leading and growing the STM=20
journals program from its current foundation, which includes=20
journals in life science, medicine, and materials science and=20
engineering. Key journals in the company's STM journals program,=20
many of which are published on behalf of valued society and=20
association partners, include Angiology, Clinical Pediatrics, The=20
American Journal of Sports Medicine, The Journal of Clinical=20
Pharmacology, The Diabetes Educator, Journal of Biomolecular=20
Screening, Journal of Biological Rhythms, Journal of=20
Psychopharmacology, and Journal of Composite Materials.

"I am delighted to join this dynamic and independent company at a=20
key point in SAGE's history, just following its 40th anniversary=20
last year," stated Picknett about joining SAGE. "While SAGE is=20
one of the largest and most respected academic publishers with a=20
truly global reach, the STM journals program has been a=20
relatively small component to date. However, the portfolio is=20
growing strongly and has arisen in response to the identified=20
need for a publisher that listens closely to its partners' needs,=20
and shares their values. The STM program is now uniquely placed=20
to fully care for each title in an individualized fashion. It is=20
important to me that we really understand; and are attentive to=20
the needs of authors, readers, editors, and society partners; and=20
are close to our customers in every aspect of what we do, in the=20
spirit of engaged scholarship."

"This is a tremendously exciting time at SAGE," said Ziyad Marar,=20
Publishing Director and Deputy Managing Director, about=20
Picknett's new position. "Tessa has a deep understanding of the=20
issues in STM publishing, and working with her colleagues in the=20
U.S. and Asia will accelerate the growth of our publishing=20
program on an international scale. Appointing her to lead the=20
highly experienced team of STM publishers we have already=20
recruited will reinforce and extend SAGE's reputation as the=20
natural home for authors, editors, and societies."
