"AEFA's decision to create an official scholarly journal is a
watershed event in the history of the organization," say editors
David N. Figlio of University of Florida and David H. Monk of
Pennsylvania State University. "and we have been impressed by the
breadth and quality of the manuscripts we have received. The MIT
Press is an outstanding publisher for Education Finance and
Policy and we are gaining the attention of scholars and policy
makers throughout the United States and beyond."

The first several issues of Education Finance and Policy include
important new research contributions on topics such as charter
school effectiveness, the education of immigrant students,
dynamics in the teacher workforce, higher education finance, and
the fiscal burden of school accountability.

Ongoing public policy developments affecting educational
institutions present education policy-makers, administrators, and
economists with new global challenges and opportunities. To aid
in the deliberations and help frame the intellectual discourse on
education policy and practice, EFP promotes understanding of the
means by which global resources can be justly generated and
productively engaged to enhance human learning at all levels.
Topics explored in the journal include, but are not limited to:
school accountability; school choice; education standards; equity
and adequacy in school finance; within-school and district
resource allocation; teacher compensation; training and labor
markets; instructional policy; higher education productivity and
finance; and special education.
