Re: Revision of the Liblicense Web Site

This section of the Web site is not one I use currently, but it has been
valuable in the past. Generally, if we are buying something we will work
with the vendor to customize the license to reflect our own unique needs.

Nevertheless, seeing the standard, "off-the-shelf" licenses for prominent
vendors is helpful. Having an array of licenses in one place allows for a
quick scan for the industry standard regarding certain issues. Knowing how
an individual vendor's license compares to its peers is helpful in
negotiations. In addition, a centralized hub linking to numerous licenses is
useful for research purposes. I have written papers for my Ph.D. coursework
based on an analysis of provisions in several dozen licenses. As for the
scope of the linking, I agree that comprehensiveness is not an attainable
goal. A representative sample approach, focusing on the largest vendors who
have a license displayed on their Web sites, is probably best.
