Improving the Usability of your Online Services, Central London, Tuesday 4
October 2005

Effective online services enable users to fulfil their goals with the
minimum of effort. This highly practical course provides non-technical
staff with an introduction to the issues, knowledge and skills they need
to design effective online interfaces, skills which they can use to make
their own organisation's online services more successful. This course is
suitable for non-technical staff who are stakeholders in, have
responsibility for, or influence over, the online services offered by
their organisations (e.g. Product Managers, Publishers, Editors, Business
Development Managers and Marketing staff).

manufacturing processes and current developments in journal production.

Introduction to Journals Promotion, Central London, Tuesday 8 November
2005

This course is an introduction to the changing and challenging role of
promoting journals in today's market. Expectations of Editorial Boards can
be high, and marketing staff need to be able to produce a plan, which is
impressive to editors, delivers results and is achievable. Delegates will
discuss a variety of promotional ideas in a changing market using the full
marketing toolkit and put them to the test by working on a case study.
The course is ideal for thise with new responsibility for marketing
journals, whether in a large publishing house or a small association. The
contemporary nature of the course also makes it an excellent refresher on
best practice in promoting journals today.

details.

Journal Development, Central London, Tuesday 15 November 2005

This course goes beyond basic journal management to examine the strategy
for individual journals. Each journal has a market that supplies it with
articles and a market of customers and users. These markets change over
time and the journal needs to change and develop with them. This course
includes current issues which can affect strategic planning, looking at
market trends as a whole as well as each individual titles' market and
lifecycle. This is an intermediate course for more experienced Managing
Editors and other equivalent editorial roles, who are responsible for the
development of journals.

Please see www.alpsp.org/training/tJDV151105.htm for full programme
details.

Book and Journal Publishing Contracts, Central London, Tuesday 22
November 2005

A course to guide non-lawyer delegates through the complexities of
publishing contracts. It will enable them to evaluate contracts for
standard clauses, fair terms and conditions; learn to draft negotiated
terms appropriately; avoid legal pitfalls and consider the place of the
contract in the publishing relationship. This course is aimed at
delegates who need to understand, negotiate and draft publishing
contracts.
