Wiley InterScience Launches New Online Books Sales Model

Extensive online book program now delivers more flexibility and more
titles

Hoboken, NJ, February 22, 2005

Global publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc., today announced the launch of a
new sales model for its online book platform, Wiley InterScience
OnlineBooks (www.interscience.wiley.com/onlinebooks). Previously available
only through subject-specific collections, Wiley InterScience OnlineBooks
are now available through two convenient options affording maximum
flexibility and value for the institutional customer.

With the launch of this new sales model, 300-500 new backlist titles
dating back to January 2003 are now available, many of which are in
subject areas not previously offered before such as Physics, Psychology,
and Finance. In addition, approximately 100 new frontlist titles are also
available with this launch, bringing the total number of online book
offerings to almost 1200 titles.

The addition of new subject areas to the online book program further
broadens the editorial scope of an impressive collection of titles in the
areas of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy, Biotechnology and Food
Science, Chemical Biology and Biochemistry, Communications Technology,
Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Genomics,
Proteomics, and Bioinformatics, Medical Science, Molecular Biology and
Genetics, Occupational Health and Safety, Organic Chemistry,
Pharmaceutical Sciences, Polymers and Materials Science, Statistics and
Mathematics, and Wireless Communications among other subject areas. The
newly expanded online book collection complements the already extensive
major reference work and journal collections currently available on Wiley
InterScience.

"We want to offer our customers the tools they need to develop their
online holdings and manage spending, recognizing that not all customers
have the same needs," said Reed Elfenbein, Vice President and General
Manager, Wiley InterScience and Global STM Sales. "Our new Online Books
sales model is the result of extensive research and consultation with our
customers and offers them real choices and flexibility."

The new sales model consists of two options: the "One Time Fee Option" and
the "Flexi-Subscription Option." Both offer customers unlimited concurrent
user access to purchase titles, as well as COUNTER-compliant usage
statistics reporting. With the "One Time Fee Option" customers can pay
once for ongoing access; build customized collections by selecting
holdings on a title-by-title basis; and add additional titles at any time.
Pricing is based on the U.S. list price of the hard cover edition and the
customer FTE, with discounts based on the number of titles purchased.

With the "Flexi-Subscription Option," titles are priced at an annual flat
fee determined by FTE. A subscription provides access for one calendar
year. This option also allows customers to build customized collections
and add titles at any time. At renewal, titles can be added and deleted,
as long as a minimum of 20 titles is subscribed. Once a title has been
subscribed to for three consecutive years, ongoing access to that title is
provided at no additional cost.

"This new sales model is an example of the kind of customer-led
development that Wiley is firmly committed to," said Eileen Dolan, Vice
President, Wiley InterScience, "and we'll continue to explore ways to
better serve the needs of all our customers worldwide."
