Oxford Journals and the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center (MPRC) selected
by NIMH to take over publication of Schizophrenia Bulletin
5 January 2005

A landmark Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the
National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), Oxford Journals, and the
Maryland Psychiatric Research Center (MPRC) concerning NIMH's journal
Schizophrenia Bulletin (the Bulletin). From January 2005 the Bulletin will
be co-owned and published by Oxford Journals and the MPRC. This is the
latest high-ranking clinical journal to move publication to Oxford
Journals, following recent news of the European Heart Journal.

The Bulletin has become a leading resource that has helped shape and
foster research on schizophrenia since its first issue in 1969. It
currently appears in print only, but from 2005 the Bulletin will also be
available online via the Oxford Journals web platform, hosted by HighWire
Press. The Bulletin's new Editor-in-Chief will be Dr. William T.
Carpenter, Jr., one of the most-cited schizophrenia researchers of the
past decade, and Director of MPRC.

"NIMH received numerous high quality applications from leading publishing
organizations in North America and Europe. We are confident that the
Bulletin is in very good hands with Oxford Journals and the MPRC," said
Dr. David Shore, NIMH Associate Director for Clinical Research. "We
believe that the collaboration between Oxford Journals and MPRC is perfect
for the successful continuation and growth of the Schizophrenia Bulletin,"
said Shelley Johnson, Executive Editor at Oxford Journals.

"MPRC is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in the
investigation of schizophrenia. This pedigree, combined with Oxford
Journals' online expertise and services, such as online manuscript
handling and pre-print publication online access to research papers, means
we can deliver the best quality information faster than ever before,"
added Will Carpenter. For further information about the journal please
