Automated Journal Editorial and Production Workflow: management and
processes

London, Monday 6 December 2004

Chair: William Alden, Managing Director, Alden Group

Venue: British Institute for Radiology, 36 Portland Place, London W1B 1AT

Overview

Workflow is key to the management of journals; from the moment each
individual article is received in the Editorial Office to its eventual
publication, seamless and efficient flow through all the different
processes is essential to the rapid publication which authors, editors and
readers desire. Skilled human intervention is, of course, essential;
however, many of the mechanical processes, and the flow of the article
from one process to the next, can now be automated and there is a range of
tools available to do so. Publishers, however small, can speed up
publication, increase efficiency and reduce costs by intelligent selection
of the appropriate automation tools; this seminar will help them to
achieve this, with both presentations from experts and case studies
describing the experience of a number of smaller publishers. This seminar
will be of interest to all who are responsible for all or part of the
journals workflow, whether editorial, production or both.
