ARL Advanced Licensing Workshop

Advanced Licensing Workshop

Schedule:  The workshop begins at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26
(registration will begin at 12:30 p.m.) and concludes at noon on Friday,
February 28.

Purpose and Overview:

This workshop will:

1. deepen participants' understanding of license terms and conditions
through several  hands-on license review exercises;

2. help participants understand, evaluate, and minimize the risks in
licensing electronic resources;

3. provide strategies to participants on how to protect their legal and
business interests when working with consortia; and

4. review strategies for getting past no in difficult negotiations.

Topics covered will include:
 Risk Assessment ? The Perspective of Licensees
 Risk Assessment ? The Perspective of Licensors
 Working with Consortia
 Understanding Legal Language
 Legislative Update
 Pricing Models and Strategies
 Getting Past No

Optional group discussion sessions with the trainers will be offered on
Thursday evening.  Session topics will be:
A. Consortia
B. Legal Issues
C. Process and User Issues

Target Audience:

The workshop is open to those who have participated in ARL's License
Review and Negotiation workshop or who have had a minimum of 1 year's
experience reviewing and negotiating license agreements for their
library or consortium.

Registration Fees:

Attendance is limited to 60 participants. The registration fee includes
resource materials, meals, and breaks. Prepayment is required.

       ARL members: $400
       Nonmember libraries: $500
