RE: BioMed Central/SPARC Press release

We must remember that everything that this company has a long history of
starting new ventures, only to sell them off to Elsevier, and we should
assume that this product will go the same way. The agreement with SPARC
stipulates that the journal content must remain openly accessible, but
does not make any commitments to the institutional subscription model, or
a commitment to affordable subscription prices in the future. --Phil
Davis

"In return [for SPARC's endorsement], BioMed Central has confirmed that
its commitment to open access precludes it from selling its assets to any
publisher that does not share its promise to keep all BioMed Central
journals available through open access both retrospectively and
prospectively".
