This promises to be interesting, since, if the record companies don't own
the Internet distribution rights, those rights are probably owned by the
artists themselves.  Of course, a for-profit piracy operation (oops,
sorry, I meant "file-sharing service") like Napster doesn't provide
compensation to the artists any more than it does to the record labels, so
if the courts find that the distribution rights are held by artists rather
than the labels the court situation will probably only get messier...
