Please excuse any crossposting.

HEAD, COLLECTIONS

Simon Fraser University is a comprehensive university with approximately
15,000 FTE students. There is a main campus in Burnaby, British Columbia,
Canada, and a downtown campus in Vancouver. The WAC Bennett (main) library
is in Burnaby. The branch Belzberg Library is in downtown Vancouver. The
collections budget is approximately $6,000,000. There are approximately 134
fte staff. The Library relies heavily on approval plans for its major
letterpress purchases. Extensive co-operative licencing of databases with a
variety of consortia is undertaken. The Library has recently completed the
establishment of collections policies and a re-examination of its subject
allocations. Completing the updating of the approval plans to match the new
collections policies is a priority. Liaison librarians work closely with
the Head of Collections Management as well as the Head of Library Reference
and Head of the Belzberg Library. SFU Library makes substantial effective
use of technology to achieve its service goals. More information is
available on our Web site http://www.lib.sfu.ca .

The Collections Management Division consists of the Head, two librarians
and one clerical position, but there is extensive cross-reporting,
particularly with liaison librarians who report to other division heads.
The Head of Collections Management co-ordinates the collections-related
work of the liaison librarians; works closely with the Processing Division,
particularly Acquisitions; and works in a collaborative management style
together with the Reference and Belzberg Heads.
