More about Divine

Dear All

I picked up an interesting news item in the June 2001 issue of Informaion
World Review -front page item with more info in an article on Page 6. I
quote"

"US -based IT specialist Divine has bougth enterprise information portal
(EIP) solutions vendor Sagemaker for 'about $16.5 million in Divine
stock'. The deal brings together one of the smaller players in the
increasingly competitive portal field nd a software company previously
known mainly as a high-tech incubator firm. the acquisition gives Divine
access both to SageMaker's enterprise portal business and to its
relationships with content providers such as Thomson Financial, the
Financial Times and Reuters"

The inside article comments in its opening paragraphs that Divine "until
recently was better known for nurturing dotcom startups. The deal followed
Divine's acquisition of a 100 per cent stake in collaboration tool vendor
OpinionWare and its purchase of significant parts of internet consultancy
- and casualty - MarchFIRST."

With the downturn in the high-tech sector, Divine saw that dotcom
incubation was not the business to be in. Seeing the chance to get hold of
substantial amounts of intellectual property for 'almost nothing' - to
quote Divine president and COO Paul Humenansky - it set about transforming
itself from banker to software consultancy."

There is no mention of the Rowecom takeover, however. Watch this space, as
they say.
