TOPICS TO BE COVERED:

The workshop will provide:
   * a review of the legal landscape of the academic library as part of a
larger institution; how it affects the licensing process; and how it
affects the licensing terms libraries are able to accept;

   * a discussion of the mission and value of libraries as they relate to
users, access, and uses and how these influence licensing terms and
negotiations;

   * an explanation of library consortia, how they work in licensing, and
special issues; and

   * an opportunity for questions and discussions.


OBJECTIVES:

Participants will gain a better understanding about:
1.  the specific legal concerns of an academic institution licensing
electronic databases and e-books;
2.  the factors in addition to pricing that are important to the
institution or consortium in making a decision about an electronic
resource; and
3.  the processes individual institutions and consortia use to evaluate
license terms and pricing models;


TARGET AUDIENCE:

The workshop is intended for publishers and vendors newly engaged in the
process of licensing electronic resources to libraries.  Individuals might
include those who are responsible for:

   *  developing licensing strategies and licensing terms;
   *  negotiating and/or signing licenses for electronic resources on
      behalf of the publisher;
   *  marketing or servicing electronic resources; and
   *  sales staff.

Registration fee is $295.
The registration fee includes resource materials, continental breakfast,
lunch, and breaks.  Prepayment is required.  Attendance is limited to 60
participants.
